I Found Solace in the Strangest Place Way in the Back of My Mind

Looking back on the past 12 or so months, I have been battling demons and dealing with some of the toughest health issues of my life. Four ER trips, a two-month stint in the hospital following major surgery, and multiple traumas that no one should have to go through made up the majority of my 2019. Every year has its ups and downs, but seldom have I felt close to breaking. I felt betrayed by my body. Unable to get through my day without sheer exhaustion from struggling to function.

And yet…I’ve pulled through the darkness. I’ve climbed over that terrifying mountain and made it to the other side, finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. While I’ve beaten the hardest part of this past year, the road ahead won’t be easy as I heal, strengthen, and grow as a person both mentally and physically. Thankfully, I won’t be alone on my journey. My family, friends, and partner have all been behind me, supporting and cheering me on each step of the way in my recovery. While I’ve never doubted their support, I admit to doubting myself at times. I’m only human.

With the dawn of a new year and a new decade, I hope to find renewed strength and love for myself. 2019 knocked me down but 2020 is already showing promise if I continue to move forward. As always, I’m not going to give in. Not going to fall. I’m still breathing. ♥
